Forget special chemicals and cleaners, a small amount of mild dish washing detergent mixed with water and a soft cloth is all that you need to properly clean and care for your wheels.
Road grime and dirt can trap moisture that can cause corrosion over time. Brake dust is also corrosive and can cause clear coat and paint peeling if regular cleaning is not maintained.
Sea salt is also harsh on wheel finishes and wheels should be cleaned appropriately and more frequently if exposed to any of these conditions.
Household cleaning agents are generally too harsh and must be avoided. Some commercial products with high acidity can also be too harsh. Beware of any product that state “spray and rinse”, remember to always read the label.
Always avoid wax products and ensure tyre products are not applied to the wheel, as this can cause clear coat and paint peeling. Use caution in car washes as some use strong chemicals that can cause permanent staining or corrosion.
Do not use abrasive products or materials to clean wheels as they can damage the finish. Never use a bristle brush and never use scouring pads or abrasive cloths to clean your wheels.
Wheels require regular cleaning and care to maintain their original appearance. Please note that warranty claims on finish will be voided if any improper maintenance, cleaning agents and or methods are used.
Polished Aluminium
Polished wheels are not clear coated, therefore the appearance may diminish over time unless they receive additional care and maintenance. After cleaning, apply a coat of soft, non-abrasive cream wax according to the instructions.
